About Us

Dr. Helen Hamilton, founder and owner of Veterinary Internal Medicine Service (VIMS), received her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from University of Georgia in 1982. She completed her internship at University of Minnesota then went on to earn her Master’s degree and complete her residency in internal medicine at Colorado State University in 1986. Also in 1986, she became a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine. Dr. Hamilton was the head of the internship program at Santa Cruz Veterinary Hospital for many years before forming VIMS in 1998. She has a special interest in reproduction, endoscopy and abdominal ultrasound. Dr. Hamilton is the current president of the Greyhound Club of Northern California and the health chair for the Greyhound Club of America. She is currently involved in researching health issues specific to the Greyhound. She enjoys biking, reading, gardening and hiking with her own Greyhounds in the local parks and regional wilderness areas.

Recently, Dr. Hamilton has been honored with the Western University of Health Sciences 4 year Preceptor Award. As a Clinical Professor of Veterinary Internal medicine at Western University, Dr. Hamilton teaches and mentors 4th year veterinary students. The summer of 2009 began Dr. Hamilton’s 3rd year guiding students and passing on the skills of the profession she loves to the next generation of veterinarians.

Barbara McManus, RVT, Office Manager / Staff Supervisor

Barbara has been in the veterinary field since 1998. In 2006 she received her Associates Degree in Veterinary Technology and became a California Registered Veterinary Technician. Her background varies from small animal general practice to veterinary anesthesiology, reproduction and internal medicine. She recently joined VIMS this summer as the new Office manager and supervisor. Barbara currently lives in San Jose where she  spends time with her 2 children and 9 pets!

Cheryl Williams, RVT

Cheryl received her Associate’s Degree in Animal Sciences in 2007. After graduating, she worked with Dr. Brown for one year before joining Veterinary Internal Medicine Service in December 2008. She sat for California state boards in February 2009 and received her RVT license. She enjoys riding her Harley with her friends on the weekends and currently lives in Alamo with her two children and four dogs.

December Green, Veterinary Technician Assistant

December was valedictorian of her class, graduating on the Dean’s List from Western Career College in 2007. She brings four years of general practice experience to Veterinary Internal Medicine Service, where she joined our team May 2010 and plans to sit for the California State RVT Exam in 2011 where we are confident that she will pass with flying colors. She currently lives in San Jose with her two cats, Delilah and Gizmo. In her spare times she loves to go to San Jose Sharks games, of which she is a hardcore fan.
